Pontoon boats are the
largest growing segment in the marine industry thanks to the innovation of
performance driven pontoon boats. The triple tube has completely changed the
way people look at pontoon boats and their functionality. The centre tube
allows for more stability and better control & handling plus lifting strakes
which help lift the boat out of the water and plane like a V-Hull. Performance pontoon boats also have an
aluminum under skin which allows water to roll off the bottom side giving it
less residence than the two tube models. The underskin also silences the sound of water spray on the underside of the deck so you get a smooth, quite ride. The result is a much higher stance on the water, increased running surface stability and an overall more nejoyable boating experience.
Combine all of this
with a larger engine and Pontoons no longer have that "Old Folks Boat” stigma. With
the new design & construction, pontoon boats are now able to do it all from
your slow afternoon cruise to water sports with the family. This has opened the
market for pontoons making them the ultimate family boat, complete with multiple
furnishing layouts and luxury options. Harris Pontoon Boats are one of the oldest manufacturers in the
industry, specializing in performance and luxury pontoon boats. One of the most popular boats is the Harris Cruiser 210 tri toon with a 115 HP Mercury 4-Stroke engine.
This package is nicely optioned giving you and your family the ability
to do all your water sports and cruising with room for up to 11 people reaching speeds of up to 30MPH - exactly the versatility many Ontario boaters are looking for. On the flip side, Harris also manufacturer ultra-luxury performance boats such as the Harris Crowne 270, which is a 27 foot tritoon powerhouse with the ability to be equipped with twin 400HP Mercury outboards and reach speeds of 70MPH. Also available on this model is the 'Glass Dash' touch screen helm controls making this phenom of pontoon performance as modern as it is sporty.
Another key factor in modern pontoons is the construction or what's "under the deck." With increased horse power comes the need for increased strength and durability. When equipped with the power we're seeing on modern pontoons, the deck undergoes torsion and strain from all the thrust being created at the stern. Through elite engineering & a patented construction process, the builders at Harris Pontoons have made it's deck & tube construction basically indestructible. And, it's all backed by a 10 year bow-to-stern warranty!
The
History of Pontoon Boats
Ambrose Weeres, a
farmer who lived on the Horseshow Chain of Lakes near Richmond, Minnesota, put
a wooden platform on two columns of steel barrels welded together end-to-end in
1952, creating a sturdy deck that would be more stable on a lake than a
conventional boat. Weeres, later called "Mr. Pontoon” was eventually elected
into the Minnesota Marina Hall of Fame.
